Louis Vuitton, one of fashion’s most respected luxury houses, debuted its Spring 2019 collection today in Paris. The 49-look collection, spearheaded by creative director Nicolas Ghesquire, is an androgynous and fashion forward look at contemporary design—blurring the lines between traditional menswear and womenswear while utilizing both “low” and “high” brow fashion motifs.

With nary a monogram logo in sight, the Spring 2019 collection featured a series of new prints for the house. From fish scale pattern embroidery to bright, paint streaks over fabric, Ghesquiere’s ability to pair printed textiles shown through today’s show. In regards to silhouette, an interesting contrast was struck between athleisure inspired baggy sleeves, to the oversized structure of ‘80s inspired suit jackets. For the latest collection, it seems as if a particular focus was applied to the female shoulders and upper arms, re-contextualizing the often overlooked area with structured menswear elements that naturally draw the eye. Playing with shape, the brand mixed both the sharp and the round with knife-point lapels on blazer coats balancing out the voluminous, rounded edges of smooth and untextured overcoats.

Additionally, the latest collection includes new accessories for the label as well. Building upon the success of the trunk-style handbag, both thin briefcases and chunkier pieces made their way down the runway. Along with the hard-edged trunks were a flurry of new bag designs, including a mini saucer-shaped shoulder bag that screams space travel. For a time-honored brand that has set worldwide trends for years upon years, for Spring 2019, Louis Vuitton breaks the mold pushes itself into a new frontier.
