Loewe never fails to be a highlight of Paris Fashion Week, melding Spanish iconography with creative director Jonathan Anderson's expert craftsmanship. This season, the Loewe Fall 2020 collection was all about the pleasure of playing with fashion, bringing optimistic energy to the crowd of fashion insiders at Maison de l'UNESCO. After last season took inspiration from the 16th and 17th centuries in a refreshing take on nostalgia, Anderson continued his strong track record at the house by bringing flamenco motifs together with art, regal fabrics, and surreal details that cross into the world of couture.

A highlight of the Loewe Fall 2020 collection was a collaboration with artist Takuro Kuwata, whose ceramic pieces were blended onto dresses and the drawstrings of Flamenco clutches, as shown on models like Kaia Gerber (who, despite being the star of Loewe's Spring 2020 publication, was walking her first show for the house). Anderson also elegantly depicted the house's Spanish roots through the luxuriously designed array of flamenco-inspired gowns, which were truly magical amidst the unconventional flourishes that accompanied them.

In finding its latest ways to manipulate craft and silhouette, Loewe offered a juxtaposition: regal, more serious sources of inspiration mixed with unexpected pieces (like a series of feathered head covers) to create something that felt straight out of a fashion fever dream. The brand's luxurious fabrics and exaggerated grandeur created an air of optimism and excitement at the show, and the range of volume play provides plenty of inspiration for standing out at formal events once fall arrives.

Other prominent features were inflated sleeves, raised necklines, sculptural collars, feathered headcovers, and bejeweled shoe clips, all of which added to Loewe's signature regal traits. The couture-like amusement of the collection occurred in a surreal context, reimagining tradition and craft for the internet age without overly pandering to Instagram or meme culture. A well-received and aesthetically appealing collection, Loewe Fall 2020 was nothing less than dynamic and elegant and will leave fans of the brand eager for more.
