Alessandro Michele Presents Gucci Twinsburg For Spring/Summer 2023
The '90s are back and so are Gremlins in Gucci's Spring/Summer 2023 collection.
Alessandro Michele has done it again—always known for embracing the fantastical, the designer has taken creativity to a new level. For Gucci's Spring/Summer 2023 runway show, entitled, "Gucci Twinsburg," Michele cast sets of identical twins to model his new collection, side-by-side.
"Different opposite. Opposite different," a voice calls out over the show. In his show notes, Michele explains, "I am a son of two mothers: mum Eralda and mum Giuliana. Two extraordinary women who made their township the ultimate seal of their existence. They lived in the same body. They dressed and combed their hair in the same way. They were magically mirrored. One multiplied the other. That was my world, perfectly double and doubled."
In many ways, the show is not only about twins, but Michele's childhood experience. Gizmo from the Gremlins film also appeared throughout the looks as another reference to duality. While Michele's work always captures a certain child-like whimsy, this piece of nostalgia was certainly a new addition to his usual equestrian motifs and radical innovations.
