Etro's New Journey Under New Creative Director Marco De Vincenzo
Marco De Vincenzo shares how he decoded Etro's trademarks and combined them with his aesthetic language in his debut collection with the brand.
“I tried to tell the truth. I had an important assignment in an unexpected moment in my life " said Marco De Vincenzo, new creative director of Etro's men's and women's collections. "I know myself and I also know what my territory is, my comfort zone, and I have tried to unite what I am with the reality of Etro. I would never have imagined bringing such a historic brand to life and since the appointment, I have entrusted myself to my joy, I have decided to assert all the beautiful things I love. The result is a miracle of positive energies. Then I wondered what Etro was because I didn't want to get trapped by the story. So we created a marriage between who I am and the brand."
Backstage, De Vincenzo says that his starting point was a celebration of fabrics because Etro was born as a textile company that has made a contribution to the history of Made in Italy. "In the collection, you will not find a great presence of paisley, only a few hints, but there are denim brocades with the designs of birds, flowers, and fruits, dresses in knitwear with shaded color backgrounds. There are also more essential looks, such as a shirt worn with a cotton boxer or a shirt paired with a mini skirt. I sell a lot of my badges for the use of lace and chromatic clashes."
In Etro's Spring/Summer 2023 collection, there are complete satin sets with super-saturated colors and color block mini dresses studded with sparkling crystals. "Everyone knows my experience with leather goods, which for a period of my life was also my core. Together with the collection, I presented four new bags made with the upcycling technique and finally, an accessory made up of a net that collects a fruit." The journey of Etro by De Vincenzo migrates towards a new dimension, simpler and more minimal. To use his words, it's "a journey of pure joy for a new beginning."
