Chanel Explores the Color Spectrum for Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2025
From dawn to dusk, Chanel’s Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2025 collection celebrates the house’s enduring legacy of artistry and craftsmanship.
For its Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2025 collection, Chanel revisits one of Gabrielle Chanel’s most defining legacies: her finesse with color. While celebrated for what was at its time considered her rebellious use of black, the couturière was equally adept at weaving an entire spectrum of hues into her designs. The French fashion house (which recently named Matthieu Blazy its creative director, set to debut in October 2025) revived this chromatic theme for the summery season.
Unveiled at the Grand Palais, the show unfolded on a double-C runway, a nod to the House’s iconic monogram and a clever symbolic representation of infinite creativity. Chanel’s new couture collection mirrors the shifting light of a single day, moving from delicate morning hues to the deep, moody shades of night. The opening looks exude the calmness of a sunrise, featuring silk crêpe pajama sets in blush tones and sunshine-yellow tweed suits. As the collection progresses, the colors intensify, much like the sun at its peak. A pink-orange coat layered over a deep purple jacquard dress makes a bold statement, followed by a mimosa-yellow suit with soft pink flounces. Accessories follow suit, with strappy shoes mirroring the evolving color story, ranging from sky blue and violet to crisp white and cream.
No Chanel collection is complete without tweed, a staple that returns this season with intricate embellishments. Ensembles feature pockets, braiding, and matching linings, sometimes extending into blouses for a seamless silhouette. Per usual, the buttons are works of art—crafted from rock crystal, rhinestones, and metal, often shaped into celestial motifs like suns and moons. As night falls, the designs take on a whimsical, almost ethereal quality. Floaty chiffon dresses and pleated silhouettes create a dreamlike state. Standout pieces include the "stardust" dress, a crimson chiffon gown, and a pale yellow double-satin shirtdress, all of which reinforce the collection’s celestial undertones.
Celebrating 110 years of Chanel Haute Couture, this collection exemplifies the House’s mastery of balancing timeless tradition while proving its ability to adapt to the ever-evolving nature of fashion. A-list guests joined to witness the show, with those like Dua Lipa, Kylie Jenner, and Lily-Rose Depp filling the front row.
