Balenciaga Spring/Summer 2025: Sculptural Lines and Lingerie
Balenciaga's Spring/Summer 2025 collection takes inspiration from heritage and transcends to new boundaries.
Balenciaga's Spring/Summer 2025 collection debuted during Paris Fashion Week and drew a star-studded front row, including global pop icon Katy Perry and L'OFFICIEL cover star Nicole Kidman.
The show, helmed by creative director Demna Gvasalia, was a tribute to the brand's past and future, merging the heritage of Cristóbal Balenciaga's iconic silhouettes with innovative, modern designs.
In a personal note, Gvasalia reflected on his early fascination with fashion: “My earliest memories of fashion start with me drawing looks on cardboard, cutting them out, and making ‘fashion shows,’” he wrote. This nostalgic reflection set the tone for the collection, which played on the theme of reinvention and craftsmanship, balancing traditional and experimental aesthetics.
One of the standout elements was the cocoon silhouette—a nod to Cristóbal Balenciaga's legacy. Known for its voluminous yet structured form, the cocoon shape has long been a symbol of the brand's ability to sculpt fabric in new and innovative ways.
Another bold move in the collection was the use of lingerie-inspired looks, which pushed the boundaries of structure and minimalism. Some pieces incorporated a unique hinging mechanism that allowed tops to clasp around the ribcage, exposing the back entirely. This daring design choice was a clever balance between sensuality and avant-garde engineering, showcasing Balenciaga's continuous exploration of the human form.
