According to the Runways, the Punk Smokey Eye is 2021's Next Big Beauty Trend

Dark and dramatic, the punk smokey eye was back in full force at Chanel, Dior, and more.

The punk smokey eye populated the recent Fall/Winter 2021 runways with labels like Dior, Chanel, and Max Mara bringing back the dark and smudgy beauty effect reminiscent of one of the most popular makeup trends of the early aughts. While the fatigue-chic look at Dior was more on the grunge side, Paco Rabanne opted for a soft and messy eyeshadow and Givenchy went for a thick black lined eye.

Both angsty and classic, the smokey eye is a dramatic look that can easily be remixed in fresh tones outside the usual charcoal. To avoid a racoon-eye effect, use an eyeshadow primer base to ensure that the color stays put, and when it comes to application, start lighthanded and build the pigment to the desired look.
