7 Beauty Trends From Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2021
From Sofia Loren-esque eyeliner to a new twist on the wet hair look, here's the best beauty looks from the Haute Couture runways.
The ornate ballgowns, sculptural elements, and dramatic statement pieces that Haute Couture is known for can take hundreds of hours each to create. When it comes to couture week beauty, stylists are tasked with orchestrating a look bold enough to stand up to intricate eveningwear, but with hair and makeup that doesn't overshadow the designer's painstakingly formed ensembles.
For Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2021, hairstylists and makeup artists went the extra mile to ensure each outfit that hit the runway was complemented by skillfully applied glam. From the smoked-out eyeliner looks of Dior and Chanel to retro bouffant-esque hair and mod makeup at Giambattista Valli, check out all the best beauty looks from this season's couture week.
Total Smokeshow
Smoky, sultry eyeliner was all the rage for this season's couture week. Eveningwear expert Zuhair Murad opted for a classic, diffused smoky eye, while Dior and Chanel went bold with thick swipes of black and blue liner both above and below the eye for a mesmerizing look.
Blinded by the (High)lights
Viktor & Rolf and Elie Saab were all about the glow this week. Both labels emphasized regal couture ensembles with gilded cheekbones and eyelids to match.
Get in Line
Graphic eyeliner brought the drama to Paris Fashion Week. Giorgio Armani kept things playful with candy-colored stripes and Balenciaga's sculptural collection was cleverly offset by exaggerated black wings. Avant-garde Schiaparelli was equally bold with thick slashes of eyeliner.
Au Naturale
Fendi and Iris Van Herpen let bold accessories do all the talking, pairing over-the-top earrings and manicures with understated makeup looks. Hair pulled up off the face in slick updos let the intricate adornments take center stage.
Swinging Sixties
Mod makeup has been everywhere this year, and the runways are no exception. Giambattisa Valli went retro this season, with Sofia Loren-esque eyeliner and retro '60s-inspired bouffants, while Georges Hobeika went for the iconic upper lid eyeliner.
Drip Check
Hairstylist Guido Palau ditched the blowdryer for Jean Paul Gaultier's latest installment in favor of a runway staple: the wet look. Adding texture and movement to the soaked strands kept the look fresh for 2022.
Stacked Styles
The grand silhouettes of the couture fashion were met with equally sculptural hair at a number of shows. At Fendi, hair was shaped atop the head, almost like a hat, while at Pyer Moss' couture debut, a whole coat of hair rollers merged beauty and fashion.
