Meghan Markle surprised Sunday news viewers during yesterday's CNN Heroes TV special as she praised the "quiet heroes" of the pandemic, while boasting a toned-down, natural beauty routine. The Duchess of Sussex appeared in a mauve blouse with her hair pulled back, save for a few face-framing tendrils. In lieu of her normal bold contour and eyeliner, the former Suits actress chose to embody a healthier glow with strategically placed highlighter, peachy cheeks, a shimmering pink lip, and more subdued eyes. The overall look, fashion included, fairs well on camera as it matches the flowers in the background of the shot.

The program hosted by Anderson Cooper and TV host Kelly Ripa also featured apeearances from Gal Gadot, Angela Bassett, Dr Anthony Fauci, and more. In her message, Markle expressed her gratitude for the "individuals (who) stood up and made sure the most basic needs of our communities were met” in a year that was “universally challenging for everyone.” After giving up their royal titles in March, Markle and her husband Prince Harry moved to her home state of California, mid-pandemic. Since their relocation, the couple has been regularly involved in local charity work, including bringing meals to underserved communities through Project Angel Food.

Markle's appearance on CNN is her first television spot since the Duchess revealed in a New York Times article last month that she suffered a miscarriage in July. While she made no mention of her personal tragedy in the video, she did touch on ways that community leaders and members have supported each other through 2020. She explained that, "[We] saw the power of the human spirit and the remarkable ways that communities respond in challenging times.

“We saw the good in people, in our neighbors and in entire communities coming together to say they would not stand by while our neighbors went hungry.

“We saw communities standing up and taking action. When kids’ lunch programs came to a halt, we saw our neighbors make sure that those children received the nutrition they need. And when those who are immunocompromised or most vulnerable couldn’t leave their homes, we as a community showed up to deliver the food they needed to their doorsteps.

“We know the value of food — as nourishment, as a life source — and in moments of crisis, the warmth of a meal can feel as comforting as a much-needed hug, especially in the absence of human contact due to the social distancing we’re all experiencing. These moments reminded so many that they’re cared for."
