5 Tips For Keeping Your Nails Healthy in Summer
How to keep your nails healthy in the hottest season of the year.
Now that the weather is warming up, you may want to switch up your beauty routine. One area that deserves some attention is your nailbed. During the spring and summer, nails tend to be more susceptible to dryness and flaking due to the hot weather. With that in mind, manicure expert Thais Marques, at the beauty and wellness marketplace Singu, shares some tips to ease the impacts of warmer temperatures.
Hydrate
"Drink more water than usual, as this helps to keep your body, hair, skin, and nails healthier and more hydrated", says Marques. The ideal is to drink two liters of water a day to ensure good hydration.
Prepare for Emergencies
Favorite summer settings like the sun, sea, beach, and pool are the perfect combo to end any nail polish. "Therefore, it is essential to always have an emergency kit, with a nail file, acetone, cotton, toothpick, and a basic nail polish," points out the manicurist.
Avoid Humidity
Moisture is not a friend to nails. Try to keep them as dry as possible. This tip is especially valid for those who have gel manicures, as contact with water can generate fungi and bacteria. "It is important to always have a handkerchief or towel in the bag to dry your hands and feet," adds Marques.
Let Your Nails Breathe
It is essential to remove polish one day before painting the nails again to avoid yellowing and staining. "Whenever it is without enamel, apply a strengthening base," the artist recommends.
Bonus Tip
With excessive heat, it is common for the famous "bubbles" to appear on the nails as polish is drying. To get rid of them, just apply an extra-shine nail polish on top.
