Why Are People Frothing Their Makeup Foundation?

TikTok’s latest beauty trend is all about whipping up your foundation with a milk frother.

Scrolling through TikTok can have its reward, especially when you find the latest beauty trends and tricks that actually work. The laminated brow effect, heatless curls, and the frozen beauty blender—TikTok has become the go-to spot for beauty hacks.

The latest makeup trick is all about frothing your foundation using a milk frother—yes, like the one you use for your morning latte—but what does the process look like? Beauty content creators are dropping a few pumps of liquid foundation into a glass of water and, with a milk frother, whipping the mixture until the product becomes a thick, airy mousse texture.

Taking inspiration from Glamzilla’s skincare frothing technique, Avonna Sunshine, creator of frothing foundation, describes the technique as a game changer. She said, “it feels cloudy…it feels light,” as she applied the product. She credits the lightweight, silky feeling to the mixture of foundation with water, however, the consistency does give it a light coverage to the skin. In another video attempting to froth the foundation, Sunshine applies half of her face with the frothed foundation and the other half without it. She explains that the frothed side looks more natural, but that the coverage is lighter than her normal foundation routine.

Beauty guru Huda Katan jumped on the whipping trend too. However, rather than using water, she simply frothed her foundation as is, agreeing that she felt an airy feeling. "Now I have to travel with a frother,” Katan said.
