From the ‘80s to the 2000s, fashion and hairstyles are making a comeback. To some, the idea might be cringe, to others, a fun moment to explore a different take on their personal flair. Though many of the styles of the Y2K era are not being replicated exactly from the archives, re-wearing the styles is all about self-expression. Celebrities like Beyonce, Kim Kardashian, and Ariana Grande are reviving crimped hair, a style that is voluminous, sleek, and teased, giving it a messy look.

Crimped hair, a technique of styling straight hair, dates back to the ‘80s. Using a crimping iron, the hair falls in a zig-zag, wavy pattern, but not beach weaves or loose curls. It is a statement-making hairstyle that saw a major revival in the 2000s. Today, the retro hairstyle takes on a new shape. When crimping the hair, the indentations are not as sharp; and from ponytails to textured hair, the effortlessness of a natural look is the trend of today.

Dust off your crimping iron and hop on the new trend, and while you may be looking for inspiration, check out the hairstyles of your favorite celebrities and influencers below.
