One of the most popular makeup sponges, Beautyblender was created by Hollywood makeup artist Rea Ann Silva and immediately changed the game of makeup application. The teardrop-shaped spone allows products to be evenly distributed on the skin, and can help cover tricky spots with its unique shape. While Beautyblender has become a key tool for many, there are a number of common mistakes to avoid. Here, learn how to use a Beautyblender like a pro and find out what missteps you might be making.

1. You wash the sponge improperly

Some makeup sponges (and brushes) are washed extremely rarely, which is very dangerous because dirty tools can not only irritate the skin but also cause various inflammations. The sponge should be washed every day or at least every couple of days (depending on how often you use it), then you can use it with confidence for two to three months (it is advisable to replace it with a new one later). Water alone is not be enough to wash the sponge, a non-allergenic soap or other special cleaner should be used. After a proper washing, there shouldn't be any marks on the Beautyblender or other products on the sponge.

2. You don't let the sponge dry

If you use a sponge that is still wet, the bacteria in it may come back, so cleaning it would have been a waste. It is very important to allow the sponge to dry completely after rinsing, so wash the Beautyblender after applying makeup, so that the sponge has time to dry properly before its next use.

3. You only use it to apply foundation

You can use Beautyblender not only for applying foundation, but also for other products: blush, contour, concealer, or even creamy eye shadow. The sponge can also be used with loose powder products. For whatever makeup you are applying with a Beautyblender, pay attention to your technique.

4. You swipe product on with the Beautyblender

When covering the skin with the Beautyblender sponge and the selected product, the sponge should not be rubbed on the skin but tapped gently. Otherwise, you will simply wipe the product off the skin.

5. You use the wrong side of the sponge

Beautyblender stands out from other make-up sponges because of its teardrop shape. The round end of the sponge is best for applying makep over large areas of the face, while the pointed end is effective for covering those more difficult to reach spots, like the inner corners of the eyes.
