What to Expect From the Nuits de Fourvière

The festival brings a talented lineup of stylistic and demographic diversity to Lyon, France.

Multidisciplinary and intergenerational, the Nuits de Fourvière of Lyon make a celebratory mark on summer every year. The event takes place in the Théâtre antique de Fourvière, where a variety of unique performances in music, dance, circus, and theater meet, gathering young talents and old favorites as well as artists of both local and international scenes for a grand affair of stylistic and demographic diversity. This year's programming, which runs from June 1 to July 30, 2019, boasts a myriad of attractions. 

Shows to See

From June 1-3, 2019, it was impossible to ignore the great opening show, an adaptation of Rudyard Kipling's Jungle Book, directed by Robert Wilson, featuring the avant-garde folk duo CocoRosie. From June 5th to 8th, it was time for some operatic theater with L'Orestie d'Eschyle, directed by Georges Lavaudan. Other essential creations included Mozart Requiem by Yoann Bourgeois on June 10th and 11th, Pure Dance by Natalia Osipova on June 14th, Opera under the Stars: Blue Beard by Jacques Offenbach on June 29th, and Lyon-based hip-hop company Pockemon Crew on July 14th. 

Artist Lineup

An exciting concert lineup features national and international stars: Zazie on June 24th, -M- on June 25-27, Vanessa Paradis on July 3rd and 4th, Youssou N'Dour on July 20th, Ibrahim Maalouf on July 11th, and Arthur H on July 19th. But the music events also celebrate emerging young talents, such as Eddy di Pretto and Terrenoire on July 24th, Clara Luciani and the Innocenti on July 28th, Jeanne Added on July 23rd, or The Blaze on July 25th. Not to mention iconic rock fixtures like New Order on June 28th, Interpol on July 1st, King Crimson and Magma on July 2nd, Midnight Oil on July 9th, Sting on July 17th, Tears for Fears on July 18th, and Roger Hodgson of Supertramp on July 22nd.
