L'OFFICIEL and Sotheby's Celebrate Ryan Murphy's Contemporary Curated Auction
Murphy's selection of works, including an Andy Warhol and a Jean-Michel Basquiat, will go on auction March 11.
Last night, L'OFFICIEL, together with Sotheby's, celebrated the fine art and luxury destination's Contemporary Curated auction, in collaboration with writer and showrunner Ryan Murphy.
Murphy, the mind behind TV hits like American Horror Story, Glee, and Pose, selected 13 standout works for the auction, among them an Andy Warhol portrait of Japanese musician and composer Ryuichi Sakamoto, a standout work by Jean-Michel Basquiat, two works by Wayne Thiebaud, and more.
The auction comes on the heels of Murphy's latest project: A Warhol docu-series on Netflix. Titled The Andy Warhol Diaries, the show takes a look beyond Warhol's public persona via his personal diaries, exposing a rarely-seen side of the artist and pop icon. “The series really examines Warhol's life as an artist in a new way, unveiling the man behind the work through a queer sensibility, and exploring the man as his own work of art," says Murphy.
At the event, which took place at Sotheby's headquarters, Nikki Kynard DJed while guests, including Bloody Osiris, Jaé Joseph, and Larry Milstein, browsed the auction's full selection of works and sipped on cocktails served in repurposed Campbell's soup cans.
