Art Basel Kicks Off with The Prada Double Club Miami
One of the must-see's of Miami Art Basel 2017 is The Prada Double Club Miami by Carsten Höller. This installation is a real, functioning night club that will remain open from the 5th to the 7th of December. With an innovative approach to the idea of entertainment and hospitality, the project manages to create a dialogue between contemporary art, music, lifestyle and design.
Housed in a film studio of the twenties that was previously an ice factory, the installation is composed of a dance club and a tropical outside garden: the first is entirely monochromatic, while the second is strongly polychromatic. Live performances by international artists and DJs are hosted inside the club, while the garden offers a selection of musicians expressing the Caribbean and South American diasporas present in Miami. Each performer embodies the idea of contrast on which the project was build: guests and clubbers can cross the permeable boundary between these two dimensions and embark on an autonomous and "schizophrenic" path.
The project brought to Miami for Art Basel by Carsten Höller is the second one of this kind. The first one took place in London in 2008. For this 2017 version, the artist's goal was to make art a real life experience.
The Prada Double Club Miami was inaugurated last night with a big party, starting with a performance by Wyclef Jean and the presence of Miuccia Prada, Carsten Höller and many guests of the fashion industry like J.W. Anderson, Rita Ora or Adriana Lima. Take a look at who was in attendance below.
