The Swiss luxury brand tapped Carla Chan to create an exclusive augmented reality art experience and NFT inspired by the Swiss landscape.&nbsp;

La Prairie returns to <a href="https://www.frieze.com/fairs/frieze-new-york">Frieze New York</a> with artist <a href="https://www.laprairie.com/en-us/the-house-artist-carla-chan.html">Carla Chan</a> to highlight the intersections of art, beauty, and nature. The new artwork celebrates the magnificence of the luxury brand&rsquo;s home country and transports the viewer into a virtual rendering of the Swiss Alps.&nbsp;
Known for potent products that make the science of skincare look like an artform, <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/art/la-prairie-skin-caviar-cobalt-blue-niki-de-saint-phalle-moma-ps1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">La Prairie</a> has continuously fostered exclusive relationships with the fine art community and supported female artists. The brand has had a long list of celebrated partnerships with the likes of MoMA PS1, Art Basel, West Bund Art &amp; Design, and Frieze Art Fairs. La Prairie <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/beauty/la-prairie-frieze-art-fairs-pure-gold-carla-chan">debuted its first collaboration</a> with Chan at last year&rsquo;s fair in New York, while also introducing its Pure Gold collection.&nbsp;

This year, a new <a href="https://www.laprairie.com/en-us/pure-gold-collection/radiance-nocturnal-balm/95790-01364-00.html">Pure Gold addition</a> is accompanied by another Chan original, titled &ldquo;Fading Space of Dawn,&rdquo; which creates an immersive art experience centered around light and landscape.&nbsp;
The work builds on Chan&rsquo;s multimedia approach, which combines the physical and digital, reality and illusion, nature and technology. Whereas her previous piece with La Prairie evoked the golden hour of the sunset touching the peaks of the Swiss Alps, &ldquo;Fading Space of Dawn&rdquo; nods to the atmospheric moment when the light fades and the natural landscape seemingly dissolves into its surroundings. Presented through augmented reality and video installations, the digital artwork immerses the viewer in a virtual view of the Swiss Alps during the in-between hours of dusk until dawn, which Chan witnessed herself as she completed an artistic residency at Lac L&eacute;man.
&ldquo;In this new work, I focus on the moment when nature disappears into the darkness and vanishes into the unseen,&rdquo; Chan says. &ldquo;Using digital media, I created a space to reflect on nature and its future.&rdquo;

The fading aspect of the piece not only speaks to the visual effect of nightfall, but also to the more significant impacts of climate change and the loss it wreaks on our natural world. This theme is further explored in an accompanying NFT titled &ldquo;Space Beyond.&rdquo; The <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/art/sotheby-launches-natively-digital-generative-nft-art-auction" target="_blank" rel="noopener">generative work</a>&mdash;La Prairie and Chan&rsquo;s first foray into NFTs&mdash;depicts a morphing lightscape that changes based on real-time weather and demographic data, bridging technology and nature.&nbsp;
Expanding on the idea of fading and disappearance, <a href="http://www.carlachan.com/space-beyond" target="_blank" rel="noopener">&ldquo;Space Beyond"</a> presents abstract animations that embody the fickle meteorological environment throughout the year. Including 366 editions (one for each day of the year), the ethereal visuals are informed by data collected from major cities in the 31 most populous countries in the world. Like the weather itself&mdash;and earth&rsquo;s future in the eye of climate change&mdash;&ldquo;Space Beyond" is unpredictable and ever-changing.
&ldquo;My inspiration for the <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/politics-culture/lofficiel-acquired-amtd-metaverse-virtual-collection-nft" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NFT</a> started after my first residency with La Prairie, at the Monte Rosa Hut, situated close to Switzerland&rsquo;s most impressive&mdash;and endangered &mdash; landscapes: glaciers,&rdquo; Chan shares. &ldquo;The artwork speaks about fading nature by capturing landscapes that will soon no longer exist. I like the idea that the work continues to evolve beyond the artist&rsquo;s life.&rdquo;

Further supporting the artist and brand&rsquo;s call to recognize the impacts of climate change&mdash;specifically the loss of glaciers&mdash;part of the proceeds of the <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/nfts-luxury-fashion-collaborations-gucci-louis-vuitton" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NFT</a>&rsquo;s sale will be donated to ETH Zurich&rsquo;s Department of Glaciology, a long term partner of La Prairie.&nbsp;
The artist&rsquo;s proximity to nature is mirrored by the La Prairie scientists who formulated the brand&rsquo;s newest product, the <a href="https://www.laprairie.com/en-us/pure-gold-collection/radiance-nocturnal-balm/95790-01364-00.html">Pure Gold Radiance Nocturnal Balm</a>, which is also available to experience at Frieze New York. Just as Chan was inspired by the way the light diffused over Lac L&eacute;man during her second artistic residency in Switzerland&mdash;seeing the light fade from dusk to dawn&mdash;the scientists examined the regenerative processes that happen in nature during those restoring hours. After absorbing the golden sunlight during the day, the mineral-rich mountainside continued to diffuse the energy captured from the daylight, allowing nature to thrive at night, too.
